Ettore Sottsass

After graduating from the Turin Polytechnical University, Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) transferred to Milan and there began in 1958 a collaboration with Olivetti which continued for over 20 years. During the years of confrontation, Sottsass became one of the central figures of cultural avant-garde.
The result of this experience was the birth, in 1981, of the Memphis Group in which Sottsass was it's ideologist and founder. His furniture is exhibited in all parts of the world. His most recent projects included work for Apple, Siemens, Philips, Ansaldo, Erg gasoline, Alessi and Malpensa 2000. In 1994 the George Pompidu Centre staged a retrospective on his sphere of activities.
